 | | New Jersey Repertory Company, 179 Broadway in Long Branch, will kick off its 10th season with the world premiere comedy "And Her HairWentWith Her" by Zina Camblin. Performances through Feb. 17. Jasmine owns the beauty parlor and has pretty much settled into her life, while Angie, who works there while going to school, is much more politically active. The interchange of their daily routine provides the foundation for this new comedy with a cast of two. | Auditions for Brookdale Community College's upcoming production of "James and the Giant Peach" have been scheduled at the Performing Arts Center Main Theater for three sessions; Jan. 31 from 6-8 p.m., Feb. 6 from 6-8 p.m. and Feb. 7 from 6-7 p.m. Auditions are open to all and the readings will be directly from the script; no monologues. Monmouth Players will present Noel Coward's classic farce "Blithe Spirit," the story of Charles and Ruth, an uppercrust British couple whose lives get complicated when a séance is held and Charles' dead first wife is inadvertently brought back to their quiet country home. "Blithe Spirit" will be performed at the Navesink Library Theater in the Navesink section of Middletown, with shows at 8:15 p.m. on Feb. 2, 9, 15, 16, 22 and 23; and matinees at 2 p.m. Feb. 3, 10 and 17. Rebecca's Reel Quilters Guild will host a talk by artist and teacher Rayna Gillman Sunday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. Gillman has been a guest quilt artist on the HGTV's "Simply Quilts." She will present examples of her work and a slide show titled "Taking the Leap With 'What If?' "at the Poricy Park Conservancy Nature Center on Oak Hill Road in Middletown. The fee is $8. Audrey Davis will lead an African Dance workshop Thursday, Feb. 7, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Synapse Studios, located at Dancing Foot Yoga, 10 Broad St., third floor, in Red Bank. Experience firsthand the pure joy, rich culture and irresistible rhythms that define West African dance. It's a totally stress-releasing workout for beginners and experienced dancers of all ages - and great fun. Fee is $20, $15 for students.

Brookdale Community College's Performing Art Center (PAC) will present the musical "tick…tick…BOOM!' at six February performances; 8 p.m. shows are scheduled for Feb. 14-15. Afternoon and evening performances at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. will be presented Feb. 16-17.
The Jonathan Larson autobiographical tale follows a young composer on the brink of turning 30 and falling into oblivion. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city. His best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue. Meanwhile, he is still waiting on tables and trying to write the great American musical.

Arts Unbound, a visual arts studio and gallery for people with disabilities, has announced an open call for artists with disabilities. Six artists will be commissioned from among those competing to create one or two new works of art for display in an exhibit this coming April and May at the Arts Unbound gallery in Orange.
Arts Unbound specializes in conducting classes in the visual arts by professional artists and art teachers, and serves youth and adults with mental, physical and developmental disabilities.

Local jazz vocalist Chelsea Palermo will launch her debut CD, "All About Love," at Barnes & Noble's Valentine's Day Celebration in Holmdel on Saturday, Feb. 9, at 8 p.m. in The Commons at Holmdel, Route 35.

The Black Box of Asbury Park's
Music of Invention will host Anonymous, featuring the legendary John Buckingham, tuba, Perry Robinson, clarinet, and Amy Sheffer, voice, at 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at 519 Bangs Ave. (formerly El Lobo Negro) Asbury Park. The musicians have been performers of avant-garde jazz in New York City since the 1960s. The Music of Invention is now in its fourth season of adventurous listening events. Admission is $12 in advance, $15 at the door, and $5 for seniors (over 65) and high school students and college students with an ID.
