Horace E. "Rusty" Rost Jr.

Mr. Rost, 89, of the Shadow Lake Village section of Middletown, died Dec. 28, 2007, at Riverview Medical Center, Red Bank. Born in Red Lion, Pa., he resided in Dallastown, Pa., before moving to Red Bank in 2000. Before his retirement in 1972, Mr. Rost owned Triangle Beverage, Dallastown, Pa., and Dallastown Ice Co. Prior to that, he was employed at Bendix Corp. and Burroughs Adding Machine Co. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired as a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve in 1963. He was a life member of Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dallastown, where he was a member of the choir. He was a 56-year member and past commander of American Legion Post No. 605, Dallastown, a member and past president of Dallastown Lions Club, and a 60-year member of Red Lion Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks. He sang with the York Barbershop Chorus. He was predeceased by his wife of 58 years, Fern Sheffer, in 2000; two brothers, Bruce and George Rost; and a sister, Irma Rost. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Hendrickson of Freehold and Susan R. Ryan of Little Silver; a brother, Donald Rost of York, Pa.; a sister, Marilyn Walker of Decatur, Ga.; four grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. A funeral service was held at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church. Burial was at Mount Rose Cemetery, York, Pa. Arrangements were by the Austin H. Eberly Funeral Home, Dallastown; local arrangements were by Thompson Memorial Home, Red Bank. Memorial donations may be made to Dallastown American Legion Post No. 605, 57W.
