Résumés due for Holmdel HS principal BY ERIN O. STATTLE Staff Writer
HOLMDEL - The search for a permanent principal at Holmdel High School is underway, but administrators are confident in their precise criteria.
"We are looking for a candidate with a vision for excellence, good human relations skills, someone who understands the importance of collaboration and team work, and is committed to academic rigor," said Assistant Superintendent Mary Beth Currie. "Given the nature of the district, we are looking for someone with a strong academic background in education."
C. Arthur Albrizio was named interim principal in August 2006, replacing former principal Cheryl Swider, who was relieved of her duties in July 2006.
"This is a wonderful school and a wonderful place to work," said Albrizio. "Its strengths are its students, and the surrounding community is just so supportive."
Prior to his arrival at the high school,Albrizio spent 30 years at Red Bank Regional High School in administrative and guidance positions.
According to Currie, the district's Principal Search Committee will be accepting résumés until Feb. 15. The committee will be the first step in the selection process, reviewing applications and making suggestions to district Superintendent Barbara Duncan.
Individuals fromthe Holmdel Township Education Association, the school administration, the parents organization, the student body and the Board of Education are representing each group on the Principal Search Committee. The committee is composed of two representatives from each organization, in addition to two high school secretaries. Currie is chairing the search committee.
"This is a fairly typical selection process that I went through and also observed in other school districts," Currie said.
Prior to her July 2007 arrival in the Holmdel school district, Currie was a principal for six years in Cherry Hill.
"Being a high school principal is a very challenging position," Currie said. "Having been one, I would say it's enjoyable and we just need the right person for Holmdel. So, we are going to be very selective and very careful."
