ArmyNationalGuard Pvt. James K. Anderson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. A 2007 graduate of Lanesboro (Minn.) High School, he is the son of James Anderson of the Belford section of Middletown, and Kelley Adelsman of Lanesboro, Minn.

Army Pvt. Samantha L. Kempson has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. A 2004 graduate ofMiddletownHigh SchoolNorth, she is the daughter of Deborah Kempson of the Belford section of Middletown.

Cpl. Joshua P. Hansen, Middletown, was awarded the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps Medal of Achievement by the Secretary of the Navy at a ceremony conducted by his commanding officer, Col. B. A. Bourne, at Camp Lejeune, N.C. The medal was awarded to Cpl. Hansen for his "professional achievement in the superior performance of his duties while serving as noncommissioned officer in the Headquarters and Service Company, 1st Battalion 9th Marines, 8th Marine Regiment, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force."

A 2002 graduate of Middletown High School North, Hansen attended York (Pa.) College and Brookdale Community College, Lincroft section of Middletown. He enlisted in the U.S.Marines in 2005, graduated from the U.S. Marine Infantry School, Fort Geiger, N.C., and was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon his return to the United States, Hansen was assigned to train Marines being readied for future deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan.
