Gallo welcomes residents' input
BY ERIN O. STATTEL Staff Writer

ABERDEEN - Newly elected Councilwoman Janice Gallo took the oath of office at the Feb. 4 Township Council meeting.

Gallo, a Democrat and a 24-year resident of the township, listed better communication with residents as one of the main goals for her term as councilwoman.

"I really would like to find a better way to communicate with residents," Gallo said. "I think oftentimes residents are intimidated to come forward at council meetings and I think we can change that."

According to Gallo, a former member of the Board of Education for the Matawan Aberdeen Regional School District, roundtable discussions were implemented during her tenure and seemed to work well with residents.

"There are a lot of good ideas out there," Gallo said. "I want to let the residents who put their trust in me know that they are welcome here."

Gallo also said she plans to attend courses offered by the League of Municipalities in order to fully understand the issues the township faces.

Re-elected Democratic council members include Vincent Vinci, Owen Drapkin, Deputy Mayor Wilhelmina Gumbs andMayor David Sobel. Councilman Tom Perry is also a Democrat.
