A gift for Charlie Company from one of their own
Middletown's adopted soldiers from the 82nd Airborne Division will get a special treat from a World War II paratrooper in the next round of supplies shipped through the township's Adopt-A-Unit program.

Deputy Mayor Pamela M. Brightbill (l-r), Bob Bearden and Mayor Gerard P. Scharfenberger.
Bob Bearden, an 85-year-old WWII veteran attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, has donated copies of his book about his experiences.

Bearden, a Belton, Texas, resident, is the author of the book "To D-Day and Back: Adventures With the 507th Parachute Infantry Regiment and Life as a World War II POW."

He recently visited Middletown and presented signed copies of the book to Mayor Gerard P. Scharfenberger and Deputy Mayor Pamela M. Brightbill.

During his visit, Bearden expressed his appreciation toMiddletown for its support ofAmerica's troops, particularly his fellow paratroopers from the 82nd.

The books will be included in Middletown's next shipment of donated supplies to the paratroopers of Charlie Company, 1st Brigade Special Troops Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division. Through the continued support of the community, more than a ton and half of donated goods have been shipped to Iraq.
