NOTES AROUND TOWN

Local musicians Katie, 10, Timmy, 11, and their mother, Maureen Regan participated in the 10th annualMonster Concert sponsored by the Cecilian Music Club of Freehold. The musical event took place Jan. 20 at the Count Basie Theatre in Red Bank and featured an ensemble of more than 30 baby grand pianos, playing under the baton of Ms. Beth S. Chen, and drawing teachers and their students from New Jersey, New York and Delaware. Katie and Timmy are students at St. Leo the Great School in Lincroft.
Battleground Historical Society will give a presentation of the history of Route 537, the "Old Indian Path" at its next meeting Feb. 22 at 7:30 p.m. at its headquarters at Village Inn, 2 Water St., Englishtown. Admission is free and refreshments will be served. The Society is seeking new members, and meets the last Friday of each month at headquarters. For more information, call (732) 536-3351.

An indoor merchants market will be held Feb. 24 at Middletown Township Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 2179, 1 Veterans Lane, Port Monmouth section of Middletown. Setup is 8 a.m. and doors will open at 9 a.m. Proceeds support the post's community, and active military and veterans programs. Vendor spaces are available at $10, and $5 for each additional table. Cat show veteran Peaches, a rescue cat who competes in the Household Pet Category, is shown with cat show judge Sharon Roy. The Feline Forumof GreaterNewYork will host its annual Cat Show March 1 and 2 at the Asbury Park Convention Center. Up to 225 pedigreed cats will be competing, along with a selection of local household pets, for the title of Best in Show. Visitors will be able tomeet breeders and exhibitors from around the country, as well as their beautiful cats, while strolling through the benching area. Vendors will be on hand with a range of items for cats, including high-quality foods, toys, cat trees and grooming products. Help support SNAPS (Spay Neuter and Protect Strays) by bringing a cat food donation, receive $1 off admission and be entered for a chance to win $50. Show hours are 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Sunday.

Union Gardens Fire Company No. 1, 235 Park Ave., Union Beach, will hold a blood drive to replenish the supply used for Richard Hrabosky, former Hazlet and Middletown resident, during his long illness. The drive will be held Feb. 24 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be served, and T-shirts will be given to all donors. Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel announced that Mary Jean Kinsella has been selected as one of the recipients of the New Jersey League for Nursing's 2007 Nurse Recognition Awards. Kinsella, Middletown, was nominated by Linda Quinn, chief nurse executive of Bayshore. Kinsella has been at the hospital since 1985 and is currently the core measure coordinator, with responsibility for educating the staff members on how to meet the mandated standards for patient care.
