Diverse businesses important to Matawan
Ifind it very sad that another business is closing on Main Street. What disturbs me more about the closing of CTown is what I have learned about some of the people of this town. As someone who has lived here for the past 35 years, I was disappointed to sit in at council meetings and listen to people yell out about how there would be Goya products on the shelves. I have to say, it is my opinion that a row of Goya products is better for our community than a vacant building.

It seems reasonably easy to figure out which would be a better choice for the economy of this town. Let's face it, was parking the real issue people were against C-Town in the first place? Did a few union reps standing in front of the store really stop that many people from shopping at the store? I don't think so! It is my feeling that we need to look at the bigger picture here. We are a nation with a very diverse population. We are a town that does now have a Hispanic population and we, when considering what is best for the town, need to be thinking about all of Matawan's residents.

I will miss the convenience of C-Town, the friendliness of its employees, but mostly this, when asked about a specific item it was made available for us and ordered with us in mind. When this item was not restocked at ShopRite, we were told that it was not a big seller and no effort was made to make this item available to us. People complain about the days of mom and pop stores being over. Well, we had an opportunity and blew it with C-Town.

On a more positive note, we now have another new business in town. The Pottery House, which provides outstanding hospitality and customer service! Let's work to keep this business, and all other small businesses, in our town by doing what we can to advertise their service to our family and friends. If this was the thought about C-Town from the beginning, the outcome may have been different!
