Dems imposing socialism on Middletown
As I read the statements from Matt Morehead, chairman of the Young Democrats of Monmouth County, I thought a more appropriate name would be Young Socialists of Monmouth County. As a senior citizen on a fixed income, I resent Mr. Morehead's demand that I pay more property taxes to subsidize low-income housing for him. His idea to buy existing market rate houses and give them to low-income individuals is quite frankly, absurd. How much more can we taxpayers afford? This wild idea would cost Middletown taxpayers millions of dollars.

What's next, subsidizing cars for low-income people since new cars are so expensive? Are we supposed to pour concrete over every inch of undeveloped land to satisfy the Democrats' lust for development? Thank God Mayor Scharfenberger has the courage to point out that when the state forces Middletown to densely develop its last remaining open spaces, it does so at great expense to the taxpayers. Creating affordable housing for people like Mr. Morehead is making the rest of the residents' housing unaffordable. My property taxes are high enough already without the local Democrat party forcing them even higher to impose their brand of socialism and urbanization on Middletown.
