Aberdeen looking for new township manager
BY ERIN O. STATTEL Staff Writer

ABERDEEN - The township has begun the search for an interim official after the resignation of the township manager.

Stuart Brown, who served as Aberdeen manager for two years, stepped down unexpectedly on Feb. 8, apparently because of discord with the governing body.

"The majority of the council came to a conclusion that there was a difference of opinion in regard to governance of the town," Mayor David Sobel said last week. "The end result was Mr. Brown leaving."

Sobel declined further comment citing a separation agreement between Brown and the Township Council.

Township Attorney Dan McCarthy also would not comment because the separation agreement was not finalized, but said that the agreement would become public sometime this week.

"We [the council] did a request proposal for an interimmanager, and so far we have a couple résumés," Sobel said.

Sobel added that the council would hold an executive session Feb. 27 to resolve how they will go about selecting an interim manager.

"Hopefully, we can have someone for the interimbyMarch 3," Sobel said. "Last time we did it in-house, but we are also looking at two firms to do it for us.

"Ideally, the individual should have a thorough understanding ofNew Jerseymunicipal law and have experience with our form of government, a council-manager kind of government," Sobel continued. "The search for a full-time manager will take some time, but we are optimistic to have someone within three month's time."

Sobel added that the township is fortunate in that it has plenty of experienced department heads to step up and help with the selection process.

According to an employment agreement, Brown's salary was $120,000 annually and he was required to give 90 days notice before resigning.
