County chips in $250K for Bachstadt acquisition

HOLMDEL- The Township Committee approved ordinance 2008-07, authorizing the acquisition of the Bachstadt property at the Feb. 21 meeting.

Mayor Serena DiMaso announced that Holmdel Township had received an Open Space grant in the amount of $250,000 from theMonmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders for the acquisition of the Bachstadt tract, which is located on Middle Road, next to Allocco Park.

The township had been responsible for $250,000 of the $1.83 million purchase price for the 13-acre property.

The other financing sources include the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, which will contribute $1.38 million toward the purchase price, Friends of Holmdel Open Space, which will chip in $100,000 and $100,000 in Green Acres funds coming from The New York/New Jersey Baykeeper.

"We have been working on this for a number of years, so it's a long time coming," said Committeeman Larry Fink, who thanked Friends of Holmdel Open Space for their fundraising for the acquisition.

"It's a great thing for us to be able to add to Allocco Park," DiMaso said.

Committeeman Rocco Pascucci summed up the bipartisan effort to preserve the open space,

"This is something we all worked together on," he said, "Republicans and Democrats alike."
