Mat-Ab BOE must act in best interests of students
This letter is concerning our Matawan/Aberdeen School Board Elections. Anyone who has ever attended a BOE meeting or watched it on our local station can tell you how nasty some of our elected board members can be. They seem to forget that they are there to represent the people who put them there to start with. We did not vote them in to lobby for their own benefit, but for our children's future.

It seems to me that there is more time wasted on petty arguments and insult slinging to not only the other board members but also to the parents that are there raising concerns and issues. It really is disgusting and those responsible should be ashamed of themselves. Everyone on this board should be putting their personal issues in their back pocket when they walk into a meeting. They are all there for the same purpose and that is coming to the best decisions for our children. What sort of message does their bickering send to our children?

I have known Jan Rubino for many years as we both have children that are the same age. They have gone though our school system from K-12. Jan Rubino has always been there for not only her kids but for all of our kids. She has taught them (and me) that making the right decision is not always the popular thing to do but the right thing to do. I don't think there is anyone that I have more respect for as a leader for our children than Jan Rubino. We need parents like Jan and Marty to get this board back to where it should be: A board that has a common goal for now and the future of our children. Jan and Marty have both been in our school system for years and have seen the changes that we have gone though.

We have lost too many good people in our system because of the nastiness and close-minded nature of some of our board. We need to change that. We need Jan and Marty. Please come out and get to know these candidates before you vote. I am sure you will agree with me that they are the ones for the board. Just for the record, I do have two more children still in this district, a third-grader and a seventh grader. My older girl graduated from MRHS last spring and is now old enough to vote.
