Alliance recognizes community volunteers
The Holmdel Democratic Alliance for Good Government cordially will host its 2nd Annual Shining Star Breakfast, Sunday, April 13, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Hazlet Holiday Inn, 2870 Highway 35 in Hazlet. Suggested donation is $50 for an adult; $20 for a child; $75 a couple; and $90 for a family.

Douglas Ziemba
Each year, the Holmdel Democratic Alliance bestows its Shining Star Award in recognition of extraordinary community service to any individual, small group, or organization that exemplifies service to the community, top accomplishments, active citizenship and record of integrity.

This year, it is recognizing Maureen Dronne and Douglas Ziemba.

Dronne, a resident of Holmdel since 1963, has been an active member of the Holmdel First Aid Squad for over 16 years and has held the offices of 1st lieutenant, 2nd lieutenant, treasurer and captain. She currently works as a telemetry nurse at Bayshore Community Hospital.

She has served on the Holmdel Board of Health as well as being a certified CPR instructor having taught numerous classes to Scout troops, community organizations and educators. She has also served as troop leader for the Holmdel Girl Scout Service Unit. She has taught numerous first aid badge classes to local Cub Scout dens and Boy Scout troops.

Ziemba, the newly elected fire chief of Holmdel Company No. 1, has been a fireman for 34 years. Along with Deputy Chief Richard Perrone, he has played a key role in the re-organization of Company No. 1 and the recruitment of additional Holmdel resident members. Doug has worked for the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities in underground utility damage prevention since 1976.

"Maureen and Doug deserve our recognition, because they both have a long history of contributing selflessly to our community in an area we often take for granted - public safety," said HDA President Mike Sockol. "We should all be proud of their record of achievement."

The Holmdel Democratic Alliance works to promote good government for Holmdel. The HDA seeks to strengthen the community by encouraging citizen involvement in the political process, developing community leaders and electing officials who are responsive to the needs of the community. Membership is nonpartisan.
