Loughran appointed at Holmdel H.S.
20-year veteran has been serving as asst. principal

HOLMDEL - The high school has a new leader who has been on staff for two decades.

Assistant PrincipalWilliamLoughran, a 20-year veteran at Holmdel High, assumed leadership of the high school from interim Principal C. Arthur Albrizio at last week's Board of Education meeting.

"During the 20 months I have worked along side of Bill Loughran, it has become apparent to me that his keen intellect and outstanding written and oral communication skills will serve him well as the educational leader of Holmdel High School," Albrizio said last week.

"A20-year veteran of the system, he has achieved remarkable success as a teacher of honors English, a highly regarded scholastic coach and visionary administrator. I cannot imagine anyoneworking harder thanBill for the benefit ofHolmdelHigh School students. Those of us who know himbelieve he bleeds Holmdel blue. I feel privileged to have had the opportunity to work with him."

"Mr. Loughran is an outstanding administrator who devoted himself to the school community," said Holmdel Schools Superintendent Barbara Duncan. "We are all very pleased and excited with his appointment."

The appointment of Loughran, Rumson, as principal was approved by the Board of Education by a unanimous 9-0 vote at the April 9 meeting.

"I am looking forward to getting acclimated to the position and looking at everything with new eyes," Loughran said in an interview last week. "This position is a challenging one, but I feel it ismore global in the sense that I will be seeing all levels of the school. I really look forward to getting to knowstudents, parents and teachers better."

A former English teacher and track coach, Loughran will receive $123,500 annually beginning July 1 when his role as principal becomes official.

According to the Superintendent'sOffice, the search for a principal was conducted inhouse with a 13-member committee that interviewed approximately eight candidates. Loughranmade it through to the last round.

"We're delighted to have him advancing to the principalship at the high school," said Assistant Superintendent Mary Beth Currie. "He brings a strong academic background and a broad base of high school experience.

"Mr. Loughran has demonstrated the ability to work collaboratively with parents, teachers and youngsters," Currie said.

We're looking forward to a wonderful year."

Albrizio, formerRedBankRegionalHigh School principal, took over after former principalCheryl Swiderwas ousted in July 2006. The RBR veteran received a per diemrate of $577 fromJuly 1, 2007, until June 30, 2008. His per diem from September 5, 2006, until June 30, 2007, was $550.

According to the Superintendent'sOffice, Loughranwas appointed assistant principal in 2005. He joined the district in 1988 and earned Coach of the Year designation three times during his tenure as head coach of the cross country and track and field teams. He earned his bachelor's degree in English from Bucknell University and a master's degree in administration, supervision and curriculum from Georgian Court University.
