Church Women United (CWU) in New Jersey will hold an all-day annual state assembly, "Standing for Peace and Justice," April 19 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at Red Bank United Methodist Church, 247 Broad St. Keynote speaker will be Patricia Burkhardt of CWU, and worship leader the Rev. Myrna Bethke. The video "Home First: Justice for the Homeless" will be shown. Breakfast and lunch will be served. Registration is $35 per person.

The Coalition for Monmouth County SPCA, Eatontown, will host its third annual jewelry bazaar April 26 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 700 Hope Road, Tinton Falls. New, pre-owned, genuine and costume will be available. Barkingdales, the MCSPCA's boutique, will feature its own creative "pet-centric" jewelry. Proceeds will help care for the animals at the MCSPCA. The Navesink Swimming River Group (NSRG) in cooperation with Monmouth County Clean Communities Program will hold a community cleanup April 20 from noon to 3 p.m. beginning at Phillips Park, Telegraph Hill Road, Holmdel. The effort will focus on collecting trash and recyclables from the headwaters of the Ramanessin Brook. Refreshments, gloves and bags will be provided. Pack 32 Cub Scouts and Troop 32 Boy Scouts from River Plaza section of Middletown are proud to report they collected 2,800 food items from area residents on Saturday, April 5, for their Spring 2008 Scouting For Food Drive. The items will benefit Lunch Break and St. Anthony's Church in Red Bank. The Scouts conduct Scouting for Food Drives twice a year, every year.
Community service is an important part of the scouting program - and Scouting for Food is one way to make a difference to others in our community.

Raritan High School, Hazlet, has announced the finalists in its ladies auxiliary patriotic art contest, with top honors going to Nancy Pampinello for her painting "Soldier and Son," also selected the top winner in Monmouth County, and second place at the state level. Placing second in the auxiliary's contest was Stephanie Rice for "Peace." Third place went to Nicole Rice for "Youth Protects America," and honorable mention to Stephanie Mautone for "Country and Family."

The Rhythm Kings Dixieland Band return for an evening of music and chili April 27 at 6 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Matawan, 883 Route 34. The ensemble includes trumpet, baritone sax, trombone, tuba, drums and banjo. There will also be a chili and cornbread supper.
