Teen suspects arrested in burglary of deli

MIDDLETOWN - Township police responded to a report of a burglary at the Bray Avenue Deli at approximately 6:55 a.m. April 6.

According to a press release from the Police Department, the storeowner reported a burglary had occurred overnight.

Officer Lisa Vreeland reported the owner had discovered items missing from the store and things had been moved around in the cash register area.

An investigation indicated that entry to the store had been made by forcing a side door open.

Money, merchandise, including cigars and cigarettes and lottery tickets, were taken, in addition to a DVD security recording system and a computer modem for a lottery machine, police said.

Vreeland inspected the properties adjacent to the store and followed a trail that included containers of coins from the store that were apparently dropped by the burglars.

At approximately 11:36 p.m. the same day, Officer Antonio Ciccone was assigned to investigate a report of a missing 16- year-old male from Middletown.

He met with the teen's father, who thought his son was hiding in a vacant house on Shore Acres Avenue in Middletown.

Ciccone and Officer Gregory Buhowski checked the house and found the missing 16-year-old and another 17-year-old male hiding in the house. The teenagers were in possession of the proceeds from the burglary of Bray Avenue Deli, according to a press release from the police department.

Both were taken to police headquarters, where they were charged with burglary to the Shore Acres Avenue home, criminal trespass and possession of stolen property.

Both juveniles were released to their parents.
