Bronx woman charged in Holmdel theft, false documents

HOLMDEL - A New York woman was charged with theft and possessing false documents at the Cosmetic Essence Inc. factory last week.

According to Holmdel Police, Carmen Lopez, 48, of Elliot Place, Bronx, N.Y., was placed under arrest April 21 at approximately 9:53 p.m. for stealing $350 worth of perfume products.

Lopez was an employee of CEI and was under suspicion of stealing goods, police said earlier this week.

Lopez was transported to Holmdel Township Police Department, and she provided a false name, police said. A "Live Scan" check, or inkless computerized fingerprinting system that provides a direct link to state and Federal Bureau of Investigation files, revealed her true identity. Lopez was wanted for failing to appear in federal court on drug smuggling charges.

Lopez was processed on the Holmdel charges of theft, possession of false documents (Social Security card) and hindering her apprehension. Lopez was then turned over to U.S. Immigration and Custom Enforcement agents.

Patrolman Michael Hughes was the investigating and arresting officer.
