Holmdel man charged with assaulting police officer
BY ERIN O. STATTEL Staff Writer

HOLMDEL- Atownship man was arrested after allegedly stealing his mother's car and burglarizing his father's house early Sunday morning.

Charles Tumazos, 20, of Dora Lane was charged Sunday, April 27, with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest, theft, burglary, possession of a stolen vehicle, criminal mischief and violation of a court order.

According to Holmdel Police, Tumazos' mother was visiting him in Sussex County when he stole her 2006 Ford Escape and fled to his father's residence on Yellow Brick Road in Holmdel. The state police alerted Holmdel Police that Tumazos had taken his mother's car and was in violation of a court order while at his father's residence.

While at his father's home, police claim Tumazos forcibly entered the home and burglarized it.

Police Officer Michael Michalski located Tumazos on Yellow Brick Road at 1 a.m. Sunday morning and placed him under arrest. Tumazos allegedly resisted, kicking Michalski in the left leg, leaving a bruise. Michalski apprehended Tumazos with the help of Police Officers Thomas Durdack and Robert Philhower.

Tumazos was transported to the Holmdel Police Department, where he was remanded to the Monmouth County jail, Freehold Township, in lieu of $102,000 bail, set by state Superior Court Judge Edward Neafsey.
