Park's trash removal policy not beneficial for Keyport
Iam happy to learn that some of my neighbors raised the issue of excessive trash to the mayor and that he was in agreement and willing to do something to help. However, I would warn against taking a page from the park service's policy at Sandy Hook, as the mayor suggested.

The policy at Sandy Hook - carry-in, carry-out - is a failure. The beach is always full of trash, literally resembling a landfill during holiday weekends. People who litter do not want to be burdened with their own trash. We must make it easier for people to find a trash can. I think this may mean more, smaller trash receptacles around town with regular pickup. The old bulkhead was a mess with trash because the trash cans were so far apart and it was never clear which were for trash and which for recyclables.

As many progressive towns do in other states, we should provide grouped cans so people do not have to search to dispose of litter or paper or other recyclables. They should be properly sized to accommodate the makeup of the trash (bottles and cans are far bulkier than napkins and chip bags). Keyport is a great town and I think we need to be progressive and creative in finding solutions that truly work and make our town more livable.
