Holmdel BOE reappoints Luccarelli, Hartnett

HOLMDEL - Board of Education members re-elected the current board president and vice president at the April 30 meeting.

Frank Luccarelli and Mary Hartnett were re-elected to the positions of board president and board vice president, respectively.

According to the Board of Education business office, Luccarelli has served on the board since 2006 and was appointed board president in 2007. He previously served as vice president in 2006. His term expires in 2009.

"I am honored to be selected and to serve again," Luccarelli said.

"I think it was an excellent choice by the board; he has done an excellent job," said Schools Superintendent Barbara Duncan. "I am proud to work with him."

According to the business office, Hart- nett has served on the Board of Education since 2007 and was appointed vice president last year. Her term expires in 2010.

Student representative Nikhita Prasanna, a sophomore at Holmdel High School, was appointed to the position vacated by outgoing senior John Blakeslee.

"It seems really exciting and I can't wait to get to work," Prasanna said.

Present at the meeting and sworn in by Martin Barger, attorney for the Board of Education, were new members Michael Collins, 18, a Holmdel High School alumnus, and Dr. Jim Shelton. Collins won a seat on the Board of Education with a total of 1,217 votes, the highest amount in the race, and Shelton received his seat on the board with 1,013 votes.

Incumbent Barbara Garrity held on to her seat with a total count of 1,170 votes.

The Board of Education will meet May 14 at 8 p.m. in the Satz School library.
