Girl Scout Caroline St. Angelo models a traditional Slovenian bridal hat at a cultural fair for children and their parents. Caroline, of Leonardo, a student at Middletown High School South, and Girl Scout Stephanie Chadwick, of Belford, a senior at Middletown High School North, organized the fair for their Gold Award project. The event included educational displays about different cultures and samplings of the foods of different countries. Not only did the fair meet the goal of teaching people about different cultures, but Caroline and Stephanie said it deepened the connection to their own ethnic roots.
Old Bridge Public Library, Route 516 and Cottrell Road, will host an interactive program, "Relief From Panic & Anxiety," with hypnotherapist and stress management expert Rosemary Conte, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. The event is free, but registration is required and may be done by calling at (732) 721-5600, ext. 5033.

Total Body Advantage & Figurelli Chiropractic will present a fundraiser for the Maria Frangella Colon Cancer Research Foundation 5-9 p.m. May 7 at the Holiday Inn, Hazlet. Frangella is a resident of Middletown. The event will feature musical entertainment, refreshments, giveaways, a silent auction and a cash bar. There will also be vendors offering items such as jewelry, candles and crafts. Guest speakers will discuss healthy living and nutrition, recovery care for cancer, and other topics. Sporting shades, this nattily attired canine participated in the second annual Walk With the Animals in KeyportApril 26. Hosted by the Keyport Business Alliance, the walk raised funds for the Castle of Dreams Animal Rescue.

The nonprofit German School ofMonmouth County will hold an open house May 8 from 4-7 p.m. Prospective students may visit, and parents register children ages 5-12 for summer camp, June 23- 27. The school will host free MusikGarten classes at local libraries throughout Monmouth County this summer.

The free end-of-school celebration, "Schulfest," will be heldMay 17 from 2:30-6 p.m. It will feature a student talent show, awards, teacher contest and refreshments. Students will also prepare authentic German foods to raise funds for the school materials. The school is at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Crawfords Corner Everett Road, Holmdel.
