Bluegrass band to play benefit

| MATAWAN - On Saturday, May 10, First Baptist Church ofMatawan will host local bluegrass band String Fever as a fundraiser for the annual Youth Group missions trip.
The concert will be held in the main church building at 232Main St. Doors will open at 6 p.m. and the band will begin playing at 7 p.m. Tickets, which will be sold at the door, cost $10 for adults and $5 for children age 12 and under.
String Fever banjo player Mickey Maguire, a Matawan resident and church deacon, offered the services of the band for the fundraiser, with the proceeds going to offset the cost of the Youth Group's summer mission trip.
This year, the Youth Group will travel to Harpursville, N.Y., to engage in ministry and community service at Harley and Sunshine Mulligan's farmhouse.
The Mulligans are former members of the First Baptist Church congregation who recently lost their farmhouse due to fire, and the youth group will help rebuild and renovate farms and barns, as well as build a chapel on the property to allow Harley to minister to the community.
String Fever is based in Central Jersey and has been performing in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania since 1993. Bluegrass is the heart of the group's music along with many other influences such as country, folk, jazz and blues.
Band members are Bruce Jepson, guitar, Dobro and vocals; Peter Becker, mandolin and vocals; Ridley Enslow, fiddle and vocals; Sandy Joren, bass and vocals; and Mickey Maguire, banjo and vocals.
