Brothers charged in bank robbery scheme

EATONTOWN - Police have arrested two borough brothers in connection with the robbery of a Middletown bank earlier this month.

Christopher A. Greenfield, 43, and Glenn Greenfield, 45, both of Eatontown, were arrested following an investigation into the robbery of a Bank of America branch on Route 35 South in Middletown.

Glenn Greenfield was arrested in Pennsylvania on June 7 following a joint investigation into the robbery by the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the Middletown Police Department, the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

At the time of his arrest, Greenfield was found to be in possession of 13 bags of heroin, authorities said.

"Greenfield's arrest would not have been possible without the cooperative effort of all of the law enforcement agencies involved in this investigation," Monmouth County Prosecutor Luis A. Valentin said in a press release.

"Personnel from the FBI, the Middletown Police Department, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office and the Pocono Mountain Regional Police Department all worked together to ensure that this bank robbery was solved in an expeditious manner," he said.

Further investigation into the robbery resulted in the arrest of Christopher Greenfield on June 12, according to police reports.

"Despite the earlier arrest of Glenn Greenfield, personnel from the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office, the Middletown Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation continued to diligently investigate this matter," Valentin said.

"As a result, Christopher A. Greenfield has now been charged for aiding his brother in the commission of the robbery," Valentin added.

According to police reports, police received a 911 call on June 4 at approximately 11:53 a.m. reporting that the Bank of America had been robbed

An investigation conducted by officers revealed that Glenn Greenfield allegedly entered the bank, approached the counter and displayed a handwritten note to the teller ordering an undisclosed amount of cash. After obtaining the money, Glenn Greenfield fled the scene in a motor vehicle, according to authorities.

Further investigation into the incident revealed that Glenn Greenfield left the scene of the robbery in a car and met his brother at a location near the bank to switch vehicles, authorities said.

Later that day, police pulled over Christopher Glenn while he was operating the vehicle involved in the robbery, according to police reports.

It was determined that Christopher Greenfield purposely assisted his brother prior to and after committing the crime, authorities said.

Glenn Greenfield is being held without bail at the Monroe County Correctional Facility in Snydersville, Pa., on a charge of being a fugitive from New Jersey.

Glenn Greenfield faces several charges, including second-degree robbery and third-degree theft in connection with the Middletown bank robbery, as well as an aggravated misdemeanor offense for possession of a controlled substance, according to reports.

Christopher Greenfield was charged with second-degree robbery, third-degree theft and second-degree conspiracy to commit robbery, according to authorities.

Bail for Christopher Greenfield was set at $25,000 with a 10 percent option, according to reports.
