Real Mama offers info on organic foods for kids MIDDLETOWN — A free in-store presentation on organic foods will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21, at the Whole Foods market on Route 35 north, Chapel Hill Shopping Center in Middletown. "A Common Sense Approach to Eating Organic" is being sponsored by Real Mama Inc., a Middletown-based environmental and kids health nonprofit, which will share a common-sense approach to eating and to feeding children organic foods on a budget. The presentation is designed to answer questions including whether the benefits of organic foods are really worth the additional price. Kirstin McPolin, an environmental attorney, and Kari Martin, an environmental advocate, will discuss various factors to consider, including: "What Does Organic Mean?," the USDA organic seal, "Pesticides and Kids Don't Mix," and the benefits of eating organic and/or local produce. Real Mama Inc. is a nonprofit with the mission to inform and educate mothers and families and to increase awareness and conservation of the natural environment through the most important resource: children. The Web site www.realmama.org provides tips for integrating environmental stewardship into daily family life and achieving general wellness with ecofriendly activities, practices, and products, a quarterly Web-based newsletter, and various outreach activities, Real Mama strives to provide information to busy mothers and other caregivers in an easily digested format, covering various environmental and children's health topics, information on legislative happenings, and ideas for environmentally conscious children's activities. |
