Thanks extended to 5K Turkey Trot supporters
On Nov. 29, Matawan held its third annual 5K Turkey Trot. This year's event was the largest to date, and this was due in part to the overwhelming support received from our town's emergency services, local business sponsorships, surrounding towns support and of course our dozens of volunteers from our community.

Our police department, fire department, first aid, fire police and public works department were invaluable to the support of this event. Their assistance enabled all of our runners and walkers, including our new male and female Turkey Trot record holders John Smith Jr., Matawan, and Danielle Kays, Keyport, to safely complete the 5K course. The background efforts that they put in are often left unnoticed and taken for granted. We commend you for your assistance.

Considering our current economic times, the generosity of all of our sponsorships and in-kind donations was tremendous. We send our sincerest gratitude for your efforts to make our event a success; this success will impact the future of our parks. Each year it seems as though our surrounding towns are there when we need their assistance. This year the borough of Keyport Public Works was able to lend a helping hand when it came to the hanging and lowering of this year's Main Street Turkey Trot sign. The Township of Aberdeen Public Works was there for us when we needed extra road horses to block the road. The Cliffwood Fire Department was also on hand if any emergency assistance was needed. We thank all of our surrounding towns for their assistance in our efforts.

We can't begin to thank the dozens of volunteers who "appeared" on that chilly November morning. Without their assistance the logistics of such an event would be impossible. Although our list of gratefulness could go on, it is this sense of giving that we feel is a direct reflection on our special community. We hope to see you all next year!
