Roberto Carlos Padilla Lopez of St. Catharine's Parish, Holmdel, has been ordained to the transitional deaconate by Bishop John M. Smith of the Diocese of Trenton. Transitional deacons are men who have completed the third year of seminary formation, and are ordained to serve as a minister of the Word, of the altar and of charity. They are expected to become a priest the following year or soon thereafter. Padilla Lopez will be vested by Monsignor Eugene Rebeck, pastor of St. Catharine's.

Hazlet Recreation will sponsor three coed basketball camps this summer for students entering grades three through nine, at a cost of $100 each. Camp I will be July 6-9, camp II July 13-16, and camp III July 27-30. All camps are 9 a.m.-noon at Hazlet Middle School. Participants must bring a basketball, and water bottle, and a physical is required (school physical accepted). First Presbyterian Church of Matawan, 883 Route 34, will hold a coffeehouse fundraiser for Mission Matawan at 7:30p.m. on May 22. The event will feature music and poetry by local individuals, and coffee. Freewill donations will be accepted.

Mission Matawan is a community outreach program that offers volunteers an opportunity to perform local hands-on ministering to the elderly, disabled and others in need.

HUCC Finn coffeehouse will be held June 20, with a potluck dinner at 6 p.m. followed by music at 7 p.m. The event is free, and attendees are asked to bring a dish to share if they are going to eat supper.

Volunteers are needed to help sort clothing for the Bridges trip at 6 p.m. June 24. Bagged lunches are also needed. The trip to bring food and clothing to the homeless in New York City will take place June 26.

Atlantic Highlands Historical Society will hold a self-guided summer house tour 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 27. The tour will feature five homes, two gardens, the Monmouth Hills Historic Club Casino and the Strauss Mansion Museum. The tour begins at Strauss Mansion Museum, 27 Prospect Circle, where tickets may be purchased at 9 a.m. Light refreshments will be served until 1 p.m. Ticket prices are $30 on the day of tour, and $25 if preordered.
