Area students receive Civic Chorus awards

The Monmouth Civic Chorus, Red Bank, has announced the winners of its annual vocal scholarships for New Jersey high school seniors.

Edward Donovan, Lincroft section of Middletown, received a $300 second-place award. A baritone, he is a senior at Mater Dei High School, New Monmouth section of Middletown. He has performed at the Barn Theatre, Lincroft; Phoenix Productions, Red Bank; and the Strand Theatre, Lakewood. Donovan plans to attend Carnegie Mellon University.

Mezzo-soprano Alexandra Athanasiou, Lincroft, has been awarded honorable mention. She has performed with Phoenix Productions, Concordia Youth Chorale, Opera Lab and other groups. She is a senior at Middletown High School South.
