The residents of Coach Drive East and Carriage Road in Hazlet held their annual block party on July 11 with lots of food, sunshine and friends. The Hazlet Fire Department fire truck paid a visit.
A benefit dinner and silent auction for Sgt. Michael Minard, Union Beach, will be 6-10 p.m. Aug. 25 at Up The Creek Tavern, 350 Front St., Keyport. Tickets are $15, and attendees pay for their own drinks. Sgt. Minard was on his third tour of duty in Iraq when he and his fellow soldiers were hit by a roadside bomb. He lost both legs in the explosion, and he and his wife Lynda and their two children need a home that is adapted to fit his needs. A new home will be built by Homes for Our Troops, Taunton, Mass., and monetary donations or donations of constructionmaterials, home interior furnishings and appliances are being accepted. The Traveling Poets Society and Calvary United Methodist Church, 41 Osborne St., Keyport, will present "Flavors of the East" 8 p.m. July 31 and 3 p.m. Aug. 2. Middle Eastern dancers will perform and instruct attendees who wish to learn basic steps. Middle Eastern food will be available for purchase. Tickets are $15, or $12 for groups of six or more.
