Entrust Fink with the future of Lucent property
I would like to add my voice to those expressing outrage at the recent vote to remove Larry Fink from Holmdel Township's Lucent subcommittee. Larry has been a hard-working, open and concerned committee member for many years. As a longtime Holmdel resident with children in the school system, he has a vested interest in the well-being of our town.

I was shocked to read the news about the closed session vote to determine that he would no longer serve as a subcommittee member. Where is the transparency we should expect from government, particularly at this level? Why should a committee member learn of something like this only when it is made public? In addition, the potential conflict of interest seems an invalid concern in this case. There are various adjectives that might be used to appropriately describe the secretive action taken, but "kind" is not one of them.

My husband and I bought a house in Holmdel 18 years ago. As is the case with other residents, we were taken by the natural beauty of the area. We appreciated the excellent reputation of the school district and were favorably impressed with the residents we met. Since that time, both residential and commercial developments have sprung up around us. I have become resigned to the fact that our town has grown enormously and may continue to grow.

The Lucent property offers the potential for both positive and negative physical and financial impact on Holmdel. While I have no preference for one developer over another, I do believe that we must do something with the historical building and the acres of open property, soon. It would be wise for us to see that Larry Fink, who has the best interests of Holmdel residents in mind, continues to serve on the Holmdel Township committee and remains one of the people entrusted with the determination of the future of the Lucent property.
